Maharashtra had a very exciting election with a lot of people voting, showing the highest turnout in 30 years!
There are two main groups fighting for power: the Mahayuti alliance (BJP, Shiv Sena, and NCP) and the Maha Vikas Aghadi alliance (NCP, Shiv Sena UBT, and Congress). Both sides are hopeful about winning, and five out of nine exit polls predict the BJP-led group will win easily.
This election is important because some big political parties, like Shiv Sena and NCP, have split after disagreements. If the Maha Vikas Aghadi wins, they will have to decide who will become the Chief Minister, as there might be problems inside their alliance.
During the election, there were some controversies. One was a big bitcoin scam that involved some leaders, like Mr. Patole and MP Supriya Sule. Another issue was a cash-for-votes scam where BJP leader Vinod Tawde was accused of distributing ₹5 crore for votes.
In the early results, the BJP-led Mahayuti group is ahead. Eknath Shinde's Shiv Sena seems to have done better than Uddhav Thackeray's group in proving who leads the "real" Shiv Sena. These results are still early, though, and the final numbers may change as more votes are counted.
Earlier this year, in the Lok Sabha elections, Shinde’s group won 7 out of 15 seats they contested, while Thackeray’s group won 9 out of 21 seats.
Although the opposition group, INDIA, did better than the NDA, Thackeray’s team had claimed victory in the battle for the Sena’s identity. But now, Shinde seems to be making a strong comeback.
